תיקוני הזוהר — דף א ע”א

Summary

Rabbi Shimon bar Yochaï opens with the verse from Isaiah 49 — *"Behold our God, behold we have waited for Him"* — and explains that the Shekhinah is concealed in exile due to Israel's transgressions. When Israel sins, the Shekhinah withdraws from them and hides her face. The secret of the Tiqqounim: in every generation there is a *tiqqoun* — a rectification of souls and of the world. The Tiqqounim are the remedies that allow the Shekhinah to return to the world. Rashbi teaches that every mitzvah and prayer is a tiqqoun that extends from the upper worlds. Engagement in Torah and prayer connects the soul to its higher root, and in this way draws the Shekhinah back into the world. The Tiqqounim make Redemption possible, and Redemption depends on the completion of the Tiqqounim.
