זוהר בראשית — דף עג ע”א
Summary
The Zohar explains that Ham is the father of Canaan, according to the text, and links this to the curse and to the name of the land: the Land of Israel when Israel is righteous, the land of Canaan when they are not worthy. Noah’s three sons are the support of the world and correspond to the three upper colors; Rabbi Elazar explains that the colors divide toward the side of holiness and toward the other side. He says blessed is the lot of the righteous to whom secrets of wisdom are revealed, and opens with the verse “O Lord, You are my God, I will exalt You” on the praise owed to the Master of the world. Then comes “Noah began to be a man of the soil and planted a vineyard”: Rabbi Yehuda and Rabbi Yose differ on whether the vine came from Eden or from the earth, and Rabbi Shimon says Noah wished to examine Adam’s sin and could not.
