The Zohar lists those to whom wisdom was given and what followed: Adam, Noah, Abraham, from whom Ishmael came, Isaac, from whom Esau came, Jacob and Solomon, while Moses was faithful in all the degrees. The builders took a little of the ancient wisdom and challenged the Lord; in the future the Holy One, blessed be He, will awaken wisdom and people will serve Him by it. Rabbi Yose and Rabbi Hiyya walk on the road and open with Torah: Rabbi Yose comments on “the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp,” “your camp shall be holy” and “nothing indecent,” in the sense of a defiling word. Rabbi Hiyya opens with “one people” and with the verb “they found,” like the discovery of secrets of the ancients.
