זוהר בראשית — דף קפד ע”א

Summary

“A man found him”: this is Gabriel; “wandering,” because Joseph had trusted his brothers and did not find them. According to the text, Jacob’s sons had to rule over Joseph before his descent to Egypt. Rabbi Yehuda opens with “Who will give you to me as a brother”: the Assembly of Israel says this to the King to whom peace belongs, in the manner of Joseph who sustained his brothers. Joseph is the upper covenant; when he left the world, the covenant, the Divine Presence and Israel went into exile. “One to another” refers to Simeon and Levi, from the side of harsh judgment, hence “cursed be their anger.” There is an anger that blesses and an anger that curses, corresponding to Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal. According to the Zohar, from Isaac’s side two sons came forth, one blessed and one cursed, one in the holy land and the other on Mount Seir.
