זוהר בראשית — דף קצא ע”א
Summary
Rabbi Yehuda opens with “Does a lion roar in the forest?” and teaches that when the Holy One, blessed be He, created man in the supernal image, all creatures feared him; but when a person does not follow the ways of the Torah, this image changes and wild beasts can rule over him. Daniel was saved from the lions’ den because his image had not changed, and the angel who shut their mouths is the very image of the righteous person. Ezekiel and Daniel guarded themselves from forbidden foods and merited to remain in the image of man. Rabbi Yose teaches that one must examine one’s deeds every day, that two witnesses accompany a person from morning, and that at night one must reflect and return. In the time of the sacrifices these atoned for Israel; now Torah and good deeds atone, and the Divine Presence is with them in exile.
