זוהר בראשית — דף קצב ע”ב

Summary

Rabbi Yehuda expounds “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me”: the steadfast spirit is the spirit of the Messiah, “renew” alludes to the renewal of the moon, and on the opposite side there is an impure heart and a spirit of perversity. On the road, Rabbi Yose asks Rabbi Elazar about “the spirit came forward and stood before the Lord” and about Ahab and Naboth. Rabbi Elazar answers that it was not the spirit of Naboth but a spirit of falsehood that leads people astray and ascends before the Holy One, blessed be He; Ahab was punished for killing Naboth without trial and taking his vineyard. David asked to be guarded from it, and the Zohar distinguishes two levels, holy and impure. Finally, “the Lord gives voice before His army”: His army is Israel, His camp the accusing emissaries, and the Holy One, blessed be He, stands near Israel to protect it.
