זוהר בראשית — דף רא ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar explains that “hope in the Lord, and He will save you” was said of Joseph, who did not repay his brothers with evil. Rabbi Abba opens with “Counsel in a man’s heart is deep water”: the Holy One, blessed be He, turned events through Joseph, who then brought that depth to light; others apply it to Judah. It is told that Rabbi Abba saw a man asleep on a ledge of the mountain: a snake approached, another creature killed it, and then the ledge collapsed without harming the man. The man said he had never held a grudge against anyone who wronged him, and Rabbi Abba declares his deeds greater than Joseph’s. The text then comments on “He who walks in integrity walks securely,” and Rabbi Yose describes the day of judgment, when the soul parts from the body, and urges that one stir up one’s inclination every day.
