זוהר בראשית — דף רב ע”ב
Summary
The Zohar continues on Hezekiah: because he had revealed what was hidden, Scripture later says “they despised her”; the matter was delayed because of his righteousness and did not come in his days. Likewise the tribes’ sin stood in abeyance until it was settled, and one who bears sins is always afraid. On “He lifted his eyes and saw Benjamin,” Rabbi Ḥiyya opens with “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life”: one should not watch for the outcome of one’s request, and the Torah is the tree of life; the verse is also applied to Jacob and Benjamin, “his mother’s son” because he resembled Rachel. Rabbi Yose explains that Joseph saw by the holy spirit that the Divine Presence would rest in the portion of Benjamin and Judah. Rabbi Ḥizkiyah opens with “The burden of the valley of vision”: the priests climbed onto the roofs of the Temple.
