זוהר שמות — דף ל ע”א

Summary

Three Pharaohs are mentioned in the Torah; the first had Sarah’s portrait painted in his chamber and brought it with him to bed. Rabbi Abba opens a verse from Ecclesiastes: all rivers go to the sea and the sea is not full. The sea freezes in the north and absorbs waters, then the south warmth releases them to irrigate all creation. This sea sits between north and south: the left initiates love and the right embraces. When the King ascends his bed at midnight, the north wind stirs love, and at dawn all the stars sing.
