זוהר שמות — דף לח ע”ב

Summary

At Israel's departure, Egypt's dead lay in the streets and the Egyptians could not bury them — a great publicizing of the miracle. 'Night of watches' (leil shimurim): leil denotes the night before union with the male, and layla after the union. Israel sang only in honor of the masculine in the Song of the Sea: 'This is my God and I will glorify Him.' Rabbi Shimon taught the companions the secret of Torat Kohanim, and explained 'there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness' according to the breath (hevel) that draws from judgment or mercy.
