Parashah Beshalah. The Holy One glorifies Himself above because of Israel below, wearing tefillin whose combined colors form divine splendor. The true fearer of God is one who awaits Divine kindness and requests his sustenance from the Holy One each day, as expressed in those who hope for His kindness. Rabbi Yeissa the Elder would not arrange any meal before requesting his sustenance from the Holy One. The children of faith are recognized daily by gathering only that day s allotted portion. The manna served as a test to distinguish the faithful from the wicked who lacked faith.
