Amalek was an evil serpent to Israel, ambushing them at the crossroads to defile the sanctuary and Israel. Moses commanded to remember Amalek’s deeds and to fight him. The portion of the shekels opens the portion of Vayakhel with the commandment of the Tabernacle, and the building of the Tabernacle comes to repair what the calf had wrought. The Tabernacle stands against Amalek and the impure side, and its construction repairs the flaws from both causes.
