זוהר ויקרא — דף טז ע”ב

Summary

A teaching on 'a perverse man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends' (Proverbs 16): the wicked cause damage above and separate the King from the Matron, for 'One' is said only when they are in union. The difference between masters of repentance and complete righteous ones is examined - masters of repentance return the waters to their supernal source (the garden's source), while complete righteous ones channel influence from their own place down to this world; each merits his own portion. From this the verse 'if he has sinned and become guilty... or found a lost item and denied it' - the lost item is the Assembly of Israel separated from its place ('faithfulness is lost'), and the word 'lost' (not 'destroyed' or 'ruined') implies it can be restored. Finally, the words of the Faithful Shepherd on the places reserved in Gehinnom for each sin (public Sabbath desecration, revealing forbidden unions, bloodshed, false oaths, forbidden relations, transgressing the 365 prohibitions), overseen by Satan, the evil inclination; through repentance the inscriptions are erased ('I have wiped away your sins like a cloud'). The souls of the wicked are burned to ash under the feet of the righteous in the river of fire, Dinur, flowing from the Throne of Judgment (Daniel 7) - the righteous bathe in it and are healed, the wicked are judged in it like straw before fire.
