זוהר ויקרא — דף נח ע”א

Summary

And the herald cries out concerning them every day, and their soul testifies against them day and night, and the Torah raises her voice on every side and proclaims: "How long, simple ones, will you love simplicity?", "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here... come eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed," yet there is no one who inclines his ear and no one who awakens his heart. And it is further said: the last generations to come are destined to forget the Torah among them, and the wise of heart will gather into the house of study, and none will be found to close and open; woe to that generation! And from then on there will be no generation like it, until the days of the Messiah, when knowledge will awaken in the world, as it is written, "for they shall all know Me, from the smallest to the greatest."

It is written, "and a river went out of Eden." The name of that river, as has been explained, is Yuval, as it is written, "it spreads its roots by the stream," and in the book of Rav Hamnuna Sabba it is called "Life," for from there life goes forth to the world, and it is the life of the King. That great and mighty tree, in which is food for all, is called the Tree of Life, and its roots are planted in that same life. And that river brings forth deep streams of anointing oil, to water the garden, as it is written, "the trees of the Lord are satisfied, the cedars of Lebanon which He planted," and the streams gather into two pillars called Yachin and Boaz, and from there they nourish the level called the Righteous One (Tzaddik), as it is written, "and the righteous is the foundation of the world," and all gather into the sea of wisdom; this is what is written, "all the rivers flow into the sea, etc." And should one say that they arrive there and do not return, it is written afterward, "to the place from which the rivers flow, there they return to flow," for that river never ceases; and they return to the two pillars, Netzach and Hod, to flow into this Righteous One, to find blessings and joy, and this is the secret called, "this leviathan which You formed to play with," which is that same Righteous One.

And it is written, "they all wait upon You, to give them their food in its due time." "Its due time" is the Sovereign Lady (the Gevirah), called "the time of the Righteous One," and all wait for this time, for all who are nourished below are nourished from there, and this secret is also what is written, "the eyes of all wait upon You, etc." And at the hour when everything is in harmony and joins with this time, all the worlds are in joy and in blessings, and peace is found above and below. But when the wicked of the world cause the blessings of those streams to be absent, and that time nurses from the Other Side, then judgments awaken and peace is not found; and when the people of the world wish to be blessed, they cannot, except through the Priest, so that he may awaken his crown and the Sovereign Lady be blessed, and blessings be found in all the worlds.

At that time Moses asked before the Holy One, blessed be He: if the people of the world return before You, through whom are they blessed? The Holy One, blessed be He, answered him: do you ask this of Me?! Speak to Aaron your brother, for in his hand are entrusted the blessings above and below. And this is what is said, "and the Lord said to Moses: speak to Aaron your brother, that he not come at just any time into the sanctuary, etc." Rabbi Abba said: there are times before the Holy One, blessed be He, when goodwill and blessings are found, and requests may be made, and there are times when no goodwill is found, no blessings come about, and harsh judgments awaken, and sometimes judgment remains in suspense. There are times in the year when goodwill is found, and other times when judgment is found and remains in suspense, and likewise there are times in the months when goodwill is found, and times in the months when judgments are found and hang over everything.
