זוהר ויקרא — דף סד ע”ב
Summary
Rabbi Yossei said: when the day shines forth, all those masters of wailing praise with words of praise toward this morning. (When it is aroused) For when this morning is aroused, all are perfumed, judgment is stilled, and they speak praises. This is what is written (Job 38): "When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy." And at that time (faithfulness) joy and blessings are found in the world, and the Holy One, blessed be He, awakens Abraham to revive him, delights with him, and gives him mastery over the world. And from where do we know that this morning is Abraham's? From what is written (Genesis 19), "And Abraham rose early in the morning."

At the hour of the twilight between the evenings, all those one thousand five hundred ninety thousand myriads of masters of lamentation are summoned and sing at that hour, and strife prevails in the world. And that is the hour of the arousal by which the Holy One, blessed be He, awakens Isaac, who stands and judges the wicked who transgress the words of the Torah; and seven rivers of fire flow, go forth, and fall upon the heads of the wicked, and flames of burning coals are stirred from above downward. And then Abraham returns to his place, as it is said, "and Abraham returned to his place." And the day declines, and the wicked of Gehinnom cry out and say: (Jeremiah 6) "Woe to us, for the day declines, for the shadows of evening lengthen!" And at that hour a person must take care with the afternoon prayer.

At the time night arrives, those one thousand five hundred forty-eight are summoned outside the curtain and recite song. Then the judgments below are aroused, and they go roaming the world, and these recite song until the night is divided into a watch and a half. After the night is divided, all the others gather together as one and recite praises, as it is said (Isaiah 60), "and the praises of the Lord shall be proclaimed." Rabbi Yehuda said: when favor is found in the morning, the praises of the Lord are proclaimed. Rabbi Yossei said: after the north wind is aroused at midnight and departs, they proclaim praises until the morning comes, and this morning is aroused, and then joy and blessings are found in the world.

We have learned, said Rabbi Abba: all are thus, and over all of them there are three officers. At the hour this morning is aroused and praises are aroused over all those one thousand five hundred fifty myriads, a single appointed one is set over them, and his name is Heman, corresponding to the one below, and under his hand officers are appointed over them to arrange the song. At the hour the time of the twilight between the evenings is aroused and all those one thousand five hundred ninety thousand myriads of masters of lamentation sing, a single appointed one is set over them, and his name is Jeduthun, corresponding to the one below, and under his hand officers are appointed over them to arrange that song, as it is said (ibid. 25), "the song of the tyrants." At the hour night arrives, all those outside the curtain are aroused, and then all is stilled, and no opening is found, and the judgments below are aroused, all are appointed together one over another, until the night is divided. After the night is divided and all gather together, a single appointed one is set over them and gathers all the camps, as it is said (Numbers 10), "who gathers all the camps, etc.," and his name is Asaph, corresponding to the one below, and under his hand all those officers are appointed and proclaim praises.

Until the morning comes. As soon as the morning comes, that child arises and nurses from his mother's breasts to purify them, and he enters into the sun. When this morning is aroused, that is then a time of favor when the Matron speaks with the King, and the King draws from Himself a thread of blessings and spreads it over the Matron and over those who join with her. Who are those who join with her? Those who labor in the Torah at night, at the time it is divided.
