זוהר בראשית — דף קעד ע”ב
Summary
Rabbi Yehuda comments on “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble” and cites “If you slacken in the day of trouble, your strength is narrow”: one who loosens his grip on the Torah pushes away the Divine Presence, and adversaries stand ready as accusers. One who follows the paths of the Torah has advocates standing for him. The verse in Job about “one angel out of a thousand” as intercessor is explained as the evil inclination, which, when a person walks the way of truth, becomes his servant and acts as his advocate; likewise, on Yom Kippur a goat is given and attended to. The Zohar ties this to Jacob and the trouble of Dinah, and begins to explain that Rachel’s death came from Jacob’s delay in fulfilling his vow.
