זוהר בראשית — דף קצו ע”א
Summary
Rabbi Hiyya says that Pharaoh wished to test Joseph and altered the dream for him, but Joseph knew the levels and corrected him. Pharaoh said “There is none so discerning and wise as you,” because Joseph knew both the dream and its interpretation. Rabbi Yitzhak raises the case of Daniel; the reply is that Joseph relied on Pharaoh’s own words, whereas Daniel received in the vision of the night, which is Gabriel. The Zohar details what Joseph received in return for each limb that had not approached transgression: mouth, hand, neck, body, foot, thought and heart. Joseph passed through Egypt to gather the grain, and Rabbi Shimon explains that the Holy One, blessed be He, set events turning: He brought famine so that gold and silver would flow into Egypt, the “great wealth,” and only then brought Jacob.
