זוהר בראשית — דף רז ע”ב
Summary
Rabbi Elazar explains that David clung to the sixty breaths of life and did not sleep beyond them; he rose at midnight to sing praises, and praise on earth is heard by the angels. One who praises at night is saved by day. “The dead do not praise the Lord”: the living draw near to the Living One, as Hezekiah too says and as the verse “you who cling to the Lord your God are all alive today.” The Jew present then asks why it is written “you shall eat, and be satisfied, and bless,” when one blesses before eating. He answers that this means the blessing of the unification and the blessing after the meal: sustenance and marriages are as hard before Him as the splitting of the Red Sea, for they depend on the supernal level and on the mazal.
