זוהר בראשית — דף קעח ע”א
Summary
The Zohar explains that Israel is called a “worm” because its strength is in its mouth, and that it resembles the silkworm, which dies and returns from its seed, and the clay of glass, which breaks and is repaired; “men of Israel” is the tree of life. Rabbi Elazar and Rabbi Yitzhak are on the road: Rabbi Elazar recites the Shema and prays after sunrise, explaining that in the darkness of dawn one should not interrupt a couple in one shared secret. Sitting near a field, they see strange creatures on a mountain; Rabbi Yitzhak is afraid, and Rabbi Elazar answers that fear comes from sins. He cites the verse about Anah, who found the Yemim, and explains that these are strange creatures, tied to Cain and to the spirits created on the eve of the Sabbath.
