זוהר בראשית — דף קעח ע”ב

Summary

The Zohar explains that the Yemim are spirits that endured in neither one day nor the other, and that Anah, born of a forbidden union, learned from them forms of impurity. The wilderness is their dwelling, but one who walks in the ways of the Holy One, blessed be He, need not fear; of those who engage in Torah it is said, “The Lord will guard you from all evil.” Rabbi Elazar opens with “Hallelujah, I will thank the Lord with all my heart”: King David rose at midnight to sing, because at that hour the Holy One, blessed be He, awakens in the Garden of Eden to delight with the righteous. “Hallelujah” joins name and praise; “with all my heart” alludes to the two inclinations; “in the council of the upright and the congregation” refers to Israel. Rabbi Yose opens with “You are my hiding place” and names the evil inclination as a person’s adversary.
